Deep learning is a sub field of machine learning inspired by the way human brain is structured and the way it functions, also called artificial neural networks or neural networks. Deep learning learns through artificial neural network that acts like a human brain and allows the machine to analyse data and take decisions in a way very much like a human brain.


Artificial neural network is based on collection of connected nodes called artificial neurons which mimics the neurons of a brain. Each neuron transmits signals to other neurons using the connections and the neurons that receive the signal then process it and sends the signals to neurons connected to it. Neurons are aggregated into layers and different layers might perform different processes. 


Signals travel from the input layers to the last output layers by travelling through intermediary layers after crossing the layers multiple times. Layers that receive external data are the input layers and layers that provide results are the output layers. The term “deep” refers to the number of layers hidden in the neural network. Deep networks can contain as much as more than 200 hidden layers.
